Multiplication and Brain Teasers

Yesterday Hannah started learning multiplication. She has looked at times tables in the past and has been interested in multiplying but yesterday was the day we finally reached it in her workbook!

Also yesterday she started working through a Brain Teasers workbook that her friend in the USA gave her when she was over in the summer. She really enjoyed doing it and did 6 pages!

Teacup Candles

Yesterday at our home education group the children made candles. We all donated our old candles, wax beads and wicks for the activity, and the children all brought along a teacup or jar to fill. We split the candles into colours to be melted down, and added wax crayons to the wax beads and white candles to give us a whole rainbow of colours. Then as each colour was ready the children poured them in layers into their chosen recepticle.
It worked really well (after a little bit of trial and error in the melting department - who knew candles wouldn't melt in a microwave? Not me!!)  and we had some beautiful candles at the end.

Hannah layered the colours into her teacups.

All Finished!

A New Unworkbook And Some Time With Daddy!

Today Hannah spent most of the day at home with Dean while I went to visit my dad. She has a new book which I bought after my friend Gina blogged about it here , so she started it today with Dean.

She chose two activities, one was learning about her name and the other was a 3D colouring activity.

The book is a big hit, thank you Gina for recommending it!

Hannah said she missed me today while I was out, so she made me some surprises for when I came home!
She made me a card telling me how much she loves me, a bunch of paper flowers and a badge which says 'Mummy' , I am so lucky :-)

and finally, she made cupcakes with daddy for tonight's desert and they are delicious!!

Riding Lesson

Yesterday Hannah went to Willowbrook Stables for a riding lesson. She was the only rider in the lesson and so had her favourite teacher and her favourite pony all to herself. She was very happy, which meant she was able to relax and so she rode really well.

A Day At Home

On Thursday Hannah and I had a whole day at home! We don't have them very often so it was really nice to just relax and have fun together without needing to be anywhere or clock watch!

This is what we did -

We baked cookies

Played Connect 4 and Guess Who?

Built castles and read stories,

and did lots and lots of art!

Catching Up With Friends

The snow has almost all cleared now, so we were able to go to the home education group meeting at the adventure playground today. Hannah was really excited to see her friends and had a lovely afternoon there catching up with everyone!

Cold, but happy girls!!

Garden Birds

As I've mentioned (quite a few times), Hannah has been really enjoying watching and feeding the birds that are visiting our garden. They gather in the big apple tree and swoop down to the bird tables and feeders which we are keeping fully stocked for them.

I've been trying to take pictures, but it's harder than it sounds!! Anyway, today I managed a few of the green finches and gold finches in the apple tree - not great, but I will keep trying!

Snow, Beautiful Snow!

The snow we had been promised came last night transforming our garden into a winter wonderland, and bringing with it a wonderful air of excitement.
Hannah had been so hoping for snow, and couldn't wait to go out on the sled.

Today was the first chance we had had to walk around our new area and we weren't disappointed! We went down towards the old part of Bedhampton past the historic old church and out over the railway bridge to the fields. It was beautiful!

It's snowing!

Someone's spaniel wanted to join in the sledding!!

Our snowman in the field

When we arrived home we were greeted by at least 30 hungry little birds waiting for a refill of the bird tables! We've had blackbirds, robins, chaffinches, greenfinches, bluetits, great tits, goldfinches, starlings and even some jackdaws today.

I'm going to try really hard to get some good pictures of them tomorrow!

a very hungry blackbird!

Once the birds had had their lunch Hannah and Dean went back outside to build another snowman in out garden this time,

Snowman number two in our garden!
After a warm up and a hot drink they disappeared to the green to have a snowball fight, and even now as it is getting dark Hannah is still outside tracking bird prints and making igloos!

She has really enjoyed her snow day!
