Lego And Loom Bands

This weekend has been all about Lego and Loom Bands.
Hannah spent some of her savings on a new Lego set which she is really enjoying. Her previous Lego has all been Lego Friends, and as much as she likes them, she really wanted a set with 'real' Lego people in it. She chose one of the 3 in 1 sets which makes a cottage, an indoor scene or a garden scene (or anything else you'd like to make really).

We also picked up her Lego Crocs that we had ordered - adorable,

and  have watched The Lego Movie. Hannah made seats and popcorn for all her little people so they could watch the movie as well.

I have to say that this movie made very little sense to me until almost the end (when it was slightly redeemed by a touching father and son moment) but Hannah enjoyed it and I think daddy did too.

It came to my attention via endless Facebook pictures and you tube videos this week, that we must be the last people on earth to have discovered Loom Bands! So I bought some just to see what the craze was all about. Who knew rubber bands could be so much fun? They are awesome, we may have gotten slightly carried away though! Must buy more bands!

A Hotchpotch Of Our Week So Far.................

Hannah and her friend (also Hannah) have been keen to do a sewing project together, and friend Hannah's mum is a really good seamstress so she offered to teach the girls some simple embroidery and sewing to make a cushion each.

Hannah learnt to embroider 'chicken scratch' in their first lesson.

Then at home, inspired by a science session that her friend had told her about, Hannah wanted to learn about the parts of a flower and how they grow. We found a book with a simple to follow dissection and she carefully dissected several flowers and learnt the names of all the different parts of the flowers.

This week we have also worked on multiplication,

Language Arts

             Social Studies

and Hannah has been working on a 'Little House In The Big Woods' Lapbook.
On Tuesday at Adventure Group the children all had a chance to try pendulum art. It was a lot of messy colourful fun!!

Afterwards the two Hannah's wanted to go shopping and had so much fun trying on heels together! They were so funny modelling 4 inch stilettos and posing in front of the mirrors!

On the way home we bought a new basket ball which Hannah took to the hoop at Grammy's house yesterday where we played a very hot game of hoops in the sunshine!

and that is our week so far!

Amberley Museum And Heritage Centre

Yesterday we visited Amberley Museum with some home educating friends. This was our first visit and it was fantastic! Hannah loved everything about the whole day! There were vintage trains, buses, fire engines, telephones, televisions, wood turning, stone works, just about everything, and  all set in a disused chalk quarry. Plus, we got to spend most of the day with our lovely friends from The Gallivanters so that made it even more fun for Hannah!

The man in the printing workshop taught Hannah how to make a printing block of her name, and then he gave it to her as a gift - she was so pleased.

She then learnt how to use it to print a card.

We all learnt so much yesterday about the industrial heritage of the local area and we saw so many things that Hannah had only heard or read about (record players, televisions with NO REMOTE!!, telephone exchanges, telegrams) . The staff were really helpful and knowledgeable, and more importantly - very child friendly - it's a really great place and we will definitely be going again.

A Few Days Away Camping

Dean has had a week off this week and the weather has been lovely, so we packed up and went camping for a few days. We found a lovely little campsite in the Meon Valley, very rural with lots of wildlife. We fell asleep listening to the owls calling and awoke to the sounds of the cuckoos with wild hares and pheasants all around the campsite - beautiful!

Our lovely new tent!

The campsite

Walking through the oat fields

Frisbees!!
