Baffins Pond

On Friday Hannah went to a workshop at the Baffins Library, and afterwards we went for a picnic and play at the pond. I gave Hannah my camera to take some pictures of the pond and she took some really nice ones! These are all hers (except for the ones she is in - she's not quite that good yet !!)

Teddy Bear Exhibition At The City Museum

On Thursday we went to The City Museum with some of our home educating friends to visit the Teddy Bears Picnic Exhibition.

Hannah was pleased to see some Berenstain Bears books in the display.

And Winnie The Pooh!

Who remembers these? I do!

Check out the tiny bear perfume bottle!

Activity Table

The children all took turns in dressing up as Goldilocks and The Three Bears!

It was a really good day and definitely worth a visit if you are in Portsmouth!

Experimenting With Art

At Adventure Group this week the children had the chance to learn about Picasso and create an abstract portrait using oil pastels.

Hannah thought it was great and really enjoyed learning all about Picasso's work.

Hannah's abstract portrait.
When we arrived home Hannah wanted to continue with her abstract art experimentation, so we got out her water colours and she painted .................

She also made me a card -

I'm so lucky, i'm always getting little cards and notes from her telling me how much she loves me - I treasure them all !

Bluebell Walk - Denmead

Yesterday we had a beautiful walk in the bluebell woods in Denmead. The birds were singing, we saw deer and the bluebells smelled gorgeous

Hannah brought one of her American Girl dolls and took photos of her getting up to all kinds of escapades! She is hoping to start a blog for her AG dolls, so these will be the first post!

Hannah and Daddy built a camp in the woods for Hannah Doll!

There is nothing like an English woods in bluebell season!

Playground Fun

Today we had to go into Havant for some shopping so stopped at the playground on the way home for some play and delicious Northney Farm ice cream!

On the walk home we crossed the Hermitage stream and Hannah was thrilled to see a family of moorhens splashing about in the water!

We were too far away to get any good pictures with my phone but the chicks were adorable little black fluffy bundles!

Bees And Apple Blossom

We have three apple trees in our garden and right now they are full of the sweetest smelling pink and white blossoms.

Yesterday Hannah noticed how many bees were visiting them and this led to all kinds of spontaneous learning!

She watched them go from flower to flower collecting pollen, saw tiny honey bees and big fluffy bumble bees, she even saw their pollen sacks on their legs. We talked about pollination, honey and how much we rely on bees for our world food supply. Did you know that worldwide, there are 90 different food plants that depend almost exclusively on the honey bee and that without bees we, in the UK, would lose one third of our diet?

We found some great websites for more information

British Bee Keepers Association ,  Bee ID Guide , Save Our Bees and The Bumblebee Conservation Trust

I think we might have to Adopt A Bumblebee !
