Shipwrecks, Smugglers and Lifeboats - Littlehampton

On (a very wet) Tuesday this week we went on a trip to the Look And Sea Centre in Littlehampton West Sussex.  The theme was Shipwrecks, Smugglers and Lifeboats and included a visit to the Littlehampton Lifeboat Station as well as a look around the Look and Sea Heritage Exhibition and some hands on activities for the children.
A Rain Swept View

We were all pretty wet when we arrived, but the children soon dried out enjoyed working their way through the activities.

Environmental Sorting Game

Sealife Themed Snakes and Ladders
There were some traditional seaside amusements to check out,

Funny Girls!

Funky Mirrors
lots of information and artifacts around smuggling,

and a great viewing tower to explore.

These girls may have seen one too many seagulls !!!

After lunch we went across to the Lifeboat Station where one of the staff there gave the children a really interesting talk about the lifeboats and the volunteers who man them.

He told us all about the clothing and equipment they use,

and showed us the different boats they have and what they are used for (river rescue and sea rescue).

Before we went home we had a quick look around Littlehampton Museum which is in a lovely old manor house.

and then caught the train home.

It was a really fun day despite the weather, and we have planned to go back again and take advantage of the beach next time as well.
