Father's Day

Yesterday morning Hannah managed to let her daddy sleep in until 9am, before she couldn't keep it together any longer and had to give him his gifts! She chose him some new sunglasses, a cookery book 'Jamie Oliver's America' (because daddy is a chef and likes Jamie Oliver's recipes), his favourite sherbert flying saucers and she also made him a 'daddy and me' keyring at homeschooling group last week.

After a yummy roast chicken dinner, Hannah and I baked him a special father's day chocolate marble cake (thanks to Betty Crocker!!)
and Hannah decorated it with chocolate frosting before adding Dada and a kiss with icing pens!
Then Hannah and daddy played Wii games together and he had his cake for supper with a jug of coffee!
Happy Fathers Day Dean, you're a great daddy and we love you loads xxxx

Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital's 40th Birthday Open Day

Today we have been to Brent LodgeWildlife Hospital near Chichester, West Sussex. They were celebrating their 40th birthday and had a big open day and guided tours around the hospital. Hannah really enjoyed seeing all the animals and birds and was very interested in the hospital. There were lots of wild birds being taken care of, blackbirds, starlings, a mistle thrush, jackdaw and lots of pigeons. She also saw hedgehogs and baby herring gulls being treated. After the hospital tour we walked around the outside cages and saw all the birds that were getting fit and well for their return to the wild. Hannah's favourites were definitely the owls!

Bowling Party

Hannah has spent this afternoon at the Bowlplex at her friend Liam's 12th birthday party. She had a fantastic time and i think she is hooked on bowling!! Unfortunately my phone does not take good pictures in a semi-dark bowling alley so here are some very bad blurry ones!!

Maths and New Books

Another quiet day today! We were going to go to a park play in Chichester, but the weather did not look promising and it's a long way to go on public transport so we decided on a home day instead.

Hannah did lots of maths - doubling, halving, and multiplication of 2's and 10's. She used her cusinaire rods to help which are great for Hannah. She learns really quickly with manipulatives as it's so much easier to 'see' the answer.

(yes, she is wearing her pj's but hey, it was a home day!!)


Then the mail arrived and the books i'd ordered from Amazon came! Hannah has been excited about The Boxcar Children since we put in the order, so we started to read it straight away!
I also found some online worksheets to go along with the book which she was interested in doing so we had those printed off to start tomorrow.
The Junie B Jones books are new to us, but came highly recommended and are easy enough for Hannah to read herself. Although, most importantly, they are funny and not at all scary!! She does not do scary at all!!
I love Amazon so much, they have such good deals and even do second hand books, and honestly, is there anything more exciting than getting new books??

Monday

We didn't have any activities to go to today, which was a nice, so this morning started quietly with some English and maths. Hannah has been working through some workbooks i picked up at the local book shop this term, but i'm not convinced about them. I spent quite a lot of time browsing the different options online, and am thinking i might order the Horizons curriculum again for those subjects for september. Anyway, she worked through a few lessons and then did a page in her picture journal.
Her hedgehog picture was inspired by her new subscription to The Hants and IOW Wildlife Trust who sent her a hedgehog poster with her welcome pack!



Then i put out her new paints and a pile of paper and left her to create!
Lots of pictures and a change of clothes later we went to the park. It was really, really busy as school had finished by then and the sun was shining, but Hannah still has lots of fun :-)

Open Farm Sunday - Barn Farm Hipley

Today, despite the weather, we went to Barn Farm in Hipley for their open day.

Hannah was very excited, and didn't mind the rain at all!


She fed the goats,

and the ponies,



and in the barn the goats were all eating dried spaghetti!





She was able to hold and pet a ferret, which she was thrilled about,
and then a little kid - he was so adorable!
and then, Lady Musgrave who owns the farm heard that Hannah loves Border Collie dogs, so she went to fetch one of hers for Hannah to meet! He was sooooo lively, that i just couldn't get a decent shot of him, but see how friendly he was lol,
That's Hannah on the other end of his lead, Lady Musgrave asked Hannah to mind him for her while she saw to the other dogs, that just made Hannah's day :-)
On the way home in the car Hannah said it was the best day she had ever had - bless her, nearly every day is the best day ever when you are 7 years old, but she did really enjoy it!

June Science Club

At Science Club this month the children learned what happens when you mix oil and water, then added food coloring and glitter to the oil and water, dropped in alka seltzers and made a cool lava lamp effect in the bottles - Hannah thought this was excellent!!



Then they made Oobleck, which Hannah had done before but always has fun with, and the mum running the group gave them the science behind it, so Hannah learned something else as well has having alot of messy fun with the Oobleck!!
After the science experiments were cleared away it was time to go out to play, and Hannah and her friends practised some acts for a circus which they are hoping to perform for us in the playground before the summer holiday!!
