Gaming and Art

We have all been knocked down by a nasty virus this week so we have had some quiet days at home. Hannah has spent some time playing Animal Jam and Club Penguin online and has met her friend Tess in the games and has been able to type and chat to her so she hasn't been too lonely. She has also had texts and skype messages from her friends at our homeschooling group which cheered her up very much.

Hannah used to love to play Club Penguin, but had been playing Minecraft recently instead. I know there have been lots of pro Minecraft things written, and we have many, many friends who love it and find it works really well for their children, but I just can't feel comfortable about it. Hannah has been distressed as much as she has been happy playing Minecraft, and i'm so glad to see her finding enjoyment with her friends on Club Penguin again.

In fact, she is so happy to be playing again that when she wasn't playing she was drawing puffles!!

What lovely drawings. Minecraft can be a double edge sword can't it... my son is obsessed with it so we have had to put on restrictions...Glad Hannah found something else she enjoys, I haven't tried club penguin but one computer game obsession is enough for me:)

Glad Hannah is feeling better. My girls don't game, but I have friends who have had similar feelings about Minecraft and their kids (2 girls and a boy) are now totally into something called 'Hay Day'? You get to manage your own farm ,and when my 2 saw it they said it looked great. I am almost thinking of gently edging out of our 'no screen time' era, into a 'occasional screen time' era ;-)

Club penguin is probably too young for your children, but it's nice and gentle and friendly so ideal for my sensitive one :-)

A farm?? That sounds like Hannah's kind of thing :-) I would love to be in a 'no screen time era' but Hannah and her dad both share a PC passion!! Sometimes it can be nice, but then there are other times when I just need to see her outside. Luckily she likes outside just as much :-D

I'm finding Sam is also spending more time on Animal Jam than Minecraft now which is good (at one time every other word was Minecraft related which was rather annoying). Now he only seems to bother with it if playing split screen on the Xbox with Jack.
