This month for book group the children all read George's Marvellous Medicine, by Roald Dahl. When we first arrived at group today they all discussed the book and reminded themselves of the story. Next they made a Marvellous Medicine picture board by drawing their chosen ingredients for their own medicine recipe.
Then it was time for some fun science experiments! They made a volcano with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, and they made bouncy balls! For the bouncy balls they mixed together a borax and water solution with PVA glue and a drop of food colouring and worked the resulting gloop until it became a doughy consistency and formed balls. They worked really well (after i had had several attempts and a more capable mum had bailed me out lol) and Hannah is very pleased with hers! The children also all had a poem sheet to take home to write their own ingredient poem.
The Medicine Board
Hannah's Poem.
It was really wet and stormy today, so instead of outside play the children all played Parachute games in the big room that we have, a chasing game called 'Duck, Duck, Goose' and a game involving stealing keys from a blindfolded friend without being heard. Hannah thought it was really fun (high praise indeed as she barely ever joins in with games!) and had the best time!!
This game is called the Washing Machine, and a brave mum ( Claire from Homeschooling Wonderboy) was the first volunteer to be wound up in the parachute and then spun undone!
The session finished with the dance and movement session that another mum does each week (also really fun!)
It's been a really, really good session today and Hannah and i would like to say a big THANK YOU to Sarah for organising it all for us! Thank you Sarah, and also thank you to Charmaine for her dance and movement session x
